🚨 “Rotate!!” 🚨 Much of team defense is

🚨 “Rotate!!” 🚨

Much of team defense is more fluid than scripted, especially after the initial dodge. These OSU defenders do a great job of communicating, anticipating ball movement, and reading one another throughout the rotation.

Quick Notes 📝

First, notice how the slider does not abandon his sliding responsibility even though his guy popped off the crease. Unless another player runs in between himself and the ball, he has to maintain slide responsibility during the dodge. His teammates read this and help him out.

Second, the SSDMs approach intends to square up the dodger and force him back to his weak hand and where the ball came from (very crowded)... or at least make him go wider down the side (less pressure on the defense).

Last, but definitely not least, SKEWER approach > SLAP approach. Stick out in front puts the ball on the deck.

My guy @connorkelly21 does a great job for @terpsmlax recognizing the JHU defender “jumping the pop”, a common move by savvy defenders trying to anticipate a standard throwback

Connors poise and “turn away” technique actually give him an extra second to read the D and throw the shooter into the skip lane!

BONUS: the backside midfielder has the best VIEW to the defensive rotation. If you anticipate early, yell 🗣 THROUGH or SKIP to help your teammate out
