Best In Class Committed 2022: Boys Evaluations

Commitment: Virginia

Evaluation: Colsey is a slick athlete with a deceptively quick first step. He has the ability to shoot from range and is always a threat to pull the trigger. He reads picks well and does a nice job setting up his defenders on the wing. As he continues fine tuning shot selection, it's not surprising to imagine the upside he will have as a lefty goal scorer for the Hoos.

Evaluation: It has been exciting to see the evolution of Leo's game the past 5+ years. From a scrawny 7th grader to a built, college-ready midfielder, Leo's combine dominance (#1 in 2/3 tests) only affirms what you consistently see on the field. Where I think Leo's game has grown most is his recognition of how impactful earning a slide and hitting singles are. He still produces, with 8 points across the 2 days, but his willingness to let the game come to him and let the ball do the work shows his deep understanding of team offense. Quaker fans have a lot to be excited about with Hoffman and this 2023 class.

Evaluation: Beyond just his stellar play, Justin's pure love for the game shined all weekend. A strong dodger with a rifle of a shot, Justin was creating all weekend. He put home a few beautiful "11 to 5" step downs from range, but also showed his willingness to get to the rack in small sided drills. As he continues to hone in shot selection and hitting singles, he will flourish in his final 2 years of HS lacrosse before he heads off to Fairfield.

Broad Jump: 9 ft, 3 in

Vertical: 31 Inches

Evaluation: Our first time having Jackson out to work left us nothing short of impressed. A quick first step and physical frame, Jackson is a party starter who can put the ball in the back of the net. He had a great balance of looking to create with letting the game come to him, and he's got a great skill set which I could see being used in a variety of ways as he heads off to Harvard. 

Commitment: North Carolina

Broad Jump: 9 ft, 1 in

Vertical: 29.5 Inches

Evaluation: A 3x returner, Teddy's game continues to improve. At 6' 3.5", Teddy is seemingly bigger every time I see him, but his arsenal of fakes, 2 handed play, and finishing is deep. As he continues to settle into his frame and use physicality in addition to his COD and change of speed, he is going to be a constant matchup issue heading into the ACC. Teddy is a ball player, always trying to improve. 

Commitment: Maryland

Broad Jump: 8 ft, 5 in

Vertical: 30.5 Inches

Evaluation: Kyle has a great frame, is physically imposing, and works very hard. You could sense his urgency from the first positional drills we ran on Saturday morning. He was at his best as a team defender and covering physical dodgers on the wings. 

Commitment: Michigan

Flying 20: 2.22 seconds

Broad Jump: 9 ft, 6 in

Vertical: 34 Inches

Evaluation: Kevin was the most notable off-ball defender at the event. He has a great feel for the flow and gray areas of the game which is rare at this level. He excels at the nuanced plays of splitting two, rotating through passing lanes, and anticipating ball movement. Kevin was solid on the ball as well, but his off-ball presence is what separated him.

Commitment: Delaware

Flying 20: 2.21 seconds

Broad Jump: 8 ft, 2 in

Vertical: 29 Inches

Evaluation: Liam is one of those guys you sense all over the field. He makes up for mistakes by going 100% and has contagious energy. He is physical, aggressive, and skilled. If Liam can continue to find the right balance of control and aggression, he will develop into a complete defender at the next level. 

Commitment: Harvard

Flying 20: 2.06 seconds

Broad Jump: 8 ft, 10 in

Vertical:  32 Inches

Evaluation: Nik does not make many mistakes which is high praise for a defender. The best defenders at the highest levels are not always making highlight type plays; rather, they just make very few mistakes and consistently do their job. Nik did this well throughout the event. The one thing I would love to see from Nik is continuing to work on his fundamental approaches (stick in front) and being more physical with ball carriers at the right times. 

Commitment: Georgetown

Evaluation: Aidan had a great weekend and was one of the most consistent defenders on the field. He moves well and brings a physical presence to his style of play, especially around GLE. One of my highest praises to Aidan was his coachability. Aidan would ask questions, take the feedback, and work to implement it into the next reps which is a crucial quality to reach the highest levels.

Commitment: Army West Point

Flying 20: 2.20 seconds

Broad Jump: 8 ft, 6 in

Vertical: 29.5 Inches

Evaluation: Tade is an elite ball stopper. With great presence and poise in the cage, he is an athlete and explosive. His top hand drive / lower body work great together. Great in tight, and on his angle play. As he tightens up a spot or 2, he will be as complete as they come. 

Commitment: Maryland

Flying 20: 2.37 seconds

Broad Jump: 7 ft, 5 in

Vertical: 26.5 Inches

Evaluation: As balanced and clean fundamentally as a junior keeper can be. On top of his shot stopping abilities from any range, his IQ and awareness in the clear are some of the best in the class. As he makes the transition to college it will be important for him to limit ending up on his back for low shots.

Evaluation: Ohnmacht, a returning BIC attendee, came out hot in each game, notching 7 saves a piece. He sees the ball well, often making clean saves, and he has great poise in the clearing game. Ohmacht's size stands out as well. From a shooter's perspective, you don't line up and see a ton of net.
